Training with Mike Lardy n transition training, we teach our dog the blind retrieve game. On land, we follow a step-by-step process from pattern blinds, to blind drills, to pattern blinds with diversions, and finally to elementary cold blinds. On water, we follow a similar progression from channel blinds through simple tune-up drills, as well as cheating singles from elementary to complex. At the completion of the transition, your dog not only understands simple blind retrieves, but also has a pretty good introduction to going straight, fighting the factors, and literal casting. There is no specific progression for going from this very rudimentarily trained handling dog to a fully trained Master Hunter or All-Age dog. In essence, advanced blind training involves working on increasingly complex factors. Although there is no step-by-step system for this effort, I can provide an overall approach to guide the progression. |
